These terms and conditions govern your use of Lost in Central America's 4x4 rental and adventure services. By using our services, you agree to these terms in full.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing and using the services provided by Lost in Central America, you accept and agree to be bound by the terms and provision of this agreement.
If you do not agree to abide by the above, please do not use this service. These terms apply to all visitors, users, and others who access or use our services.
2. Service Description
Lost in Central America offers 4x4 vehicle rental services for adventure tourism in Central America, specifically in El Salvador.
Our services include:
- 4x4 vehicle rentals with comprehensive insurance
- Adventure tour planning and guidance
- Camping equipment and gear rental
- Local knowledge and route recommendations
- 24/7 support and emergency assistance
- Vehicle delivery and pickup services
3. Eligibility and Requirements
To rent a vehicle from Lost in Central America, you must meet the following requirements:
- Be at least 21 years of age
- Hold a valid driver's license for at least 2 years
- Provide a valid passport or government-issued ID
- Have a valid credit card for security deposit
- Provide proof of travel insurance (recommended)
- Complete our safety briefing and vehicle orientation
We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone who does not meet these requirements or who we believe may pose a safety risk.
4. Booking and Reservations
All bookings must be made in advance through our official website or authorized booking channels. A valid credit card is required to secure your reservation.
Booking terms include:
- Minimum rental period of 5 days
- Advance booking recommended (especially during peak seasons)
- Full payment required at time of booking
- Security deposit held on credit card during rental period
- Cancellation policy applies (see Section 8)
5. Rental Rates and Payment
All rental rates are quoted in US Dollars and include basic insurance coverage. Additional fees may apply for:
- Additional drivers
- Camping equipment and gear
- Fuel charges (if not returned with full tank)
- Late return fees
Payment methods accepted: Credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express), bank transfers, and cash (local currency only) and Bitcoin.
6. Vehicle Use and Restrictions
Rented vehicles may only be used for the purposes specified in your rental agreement. The following restrictions apply:
- Vehicles must be driven only by authorized drivers
- Off-road driving is permitted but must be done responsibly
- Vehicles may not be used for racing, towing, or commercial purposes
- Smoking is strictly prohibited in all vehicles
- Pets are allowed with prior approval and additional cleaning fee
- Vehicles may not be taken outside designated travel areas without permission
Any violation of these restrictions may result in immediate termination of the rental agreement and forfeiture of your security deposit.
7. Insurance and Liability
All rentals include full insurance coverage, details may change depending on the car and the time of rental. In case of an accident the client should cover the deposit.
8. Cancellation and Refund Policy
We understand that travel plans can change. Our cancellation policy is designed to be fair while protecting our business operations:
Refunds will be processed within 5-10 business days to your original payment method. Processing fees may apply.
9. Vehicle Return and Inspection
Vehicles must be returned in the same condition as received, with a full tank of fuel. Our staff will conduct a thorough inspection upon return.
Return requirements include:
- Vehicle must be clean and free of excessive dirt or damage
- All equipment and accessories must be present and undamaged
- Fuel tank must be full (or fuel charges will apply)
- All personal belongings must be removed
- Vehicle must be returned to the designated location
- Return time must be within the agreed rental period
Late returns may result in additional charges. Any damage or missing equipment will be assessed and charged accordingly.
10. Emergency Procedures
In case of emergency, accident, or breakdown, please follow these procedures:
- Immediate: Ensure safety of all passengers and call emergency services if needed
- Contact Us: Call our 24/7 emergency hotline immediately
- Documentation: Take photos of any damage and obtain police report if applicable
- Do Not: Attempt to repair the vehicle or admit fault to third parties
- Follow Instructions: Follow our emergency response team's guidance
Our emergency response team is available 24/7 and will coordinate assistance, replacement vehicles, or towing services as needed.
11. Prohibited Activities
The following activities are strictly prohibited and will result in immediate termination of your rental agreement:
- Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- Using the vehicle for illegal activities
- Subletting or transferring the vehicle to unauthorized drivers
- Participating in motorsports or competitive events
- Driving on closed or restricted roads
- Transporting hazardous materials
- Exceeding the maximum passenger capacity
- Modifying or tampering with vehicle equipment
Violation of these prohibitions may result in legal action, forfeiture of your security deposit, and additional charges for any resulting damage.
12. Limitation of Liability
Lost in Central America's liability is limited to the following:
- Direct damages to the rental vehicle up to the insurance coverage limits
- Reasonable costs for emergency roadside assistance
- Refund of rental fees for service failures within our control
We are not liable for:
- Indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
- Personal injury or property damage not covered by insurance
- Loss of personal belongings or travel delays
- Acts of nature or force majeure events
- Third-party actions or negligence
Our total liability shall not exceed the total amount paid for the rental service.
13. Dispute Resolution
In the event of any dispute arising from these terms or our services, we encourage resolution through direct communication and negotiation.
Dispute resolution process:
- Direct communication with our customer service team
- Formal complaint submission with supporting documentation
- Mediation through a neutral third party if necessary
- Legal proceedings as a last resort
These terms are governed by the laws of El Salvador, and any legal proceedings must be brought in the appropriate courts of El Salvador.
14. Changes to Terms
We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time. Changes will be effective immediately upon posting on our website.
For significant changes, we will:
- Notify existing customers via email
- Post prominent notices on our website
- Update the "Last Updated" date
- Provide advance notice for major policy changes
Continued use of our services after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
